An "optimized design" is a balance of hardware and software. Too much hardware means high production cost. Too much software can be difficult to maintain and expand. It's a bit of a game, really, and the object is to win by not paying any more for hardware than is necessary while at the same time meeting the product specifications and providing all of the necessary features.

As a result of its optimized designing techniques, DataPlex designs often result in hardware platform costs less than the customer might expect. In many cases, DataPlex designs have yielded new products with more features that are less expensive to produce than that of a client’s competition.
DataPlex optimized designs include future thinking that allow for expansion which is often achieved through software upgrades, the easiest way. In those cases where expansion hardware is necessary such as for network and telecommunication products, DataPlex expands existing designs with daughterboards, expansion cards, and other convenient plug-in components.
